A court here sentenced a woman to life imprisonment and her lover death penalty for killing her husband.
Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Sharmin Nigar announced this verdict on Monday (September 23).
The death sentence accused Rafiqul Islam is the son of Tuju Mia Molla of Garkailchar village of Bancharampur upazila of the district. Rafiqul Islam is absconding since this incident.
The court ordered to issue an arrest warrant against him.
Rafiqul had an extra marital affair with Rina Begum, wife of deceased Bachchu Mia.
According to the case statement, on October 11, 2019, the body of trader Bachchu Mia, son of Harish Mia of Barailchar village of Bancharampur, was found in the Kala Bagan of Khalla village. In this incident, Bachchu Mia's brother Alamgir Mia filed a case in Bancharampur police station against unknown persons as the plaintiff.
Local police station and then the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police investigated the case. After the investigation, it is mentioned in the charge sheet filed in the court that Rafiqul Islam is directly involved with the Bachchu Mia murder. The victim was taken to a secluded spot on a motorcycle and was first strangled with a towel and then stabbed to death with a sharp weapon.
Locals said this murder was done due to Rafiqul Islam's extramarital affair with Bachchu Mia's wife Rina Begum. Rafiqul Islam is the son-in-law of Rina Begum's cousin. Rafiqul proposed to marry Rina while she was in love with Rafiqul. Then Rina asked the prime accused to kill Bachchu to get married with him. As per the plan, Rafiqul carried out the murder. Later, local people handed him to police over suspicion of the killing. Later, he and Rina gave a statement under section 164 in the court.
