Sifat made king, Shova queen for JU 42nd batch rag day

SAT DESK : Students of the 42nd batch of Jahangirnagar University on Friday elected the ‘king’ and the ‘queen’ of the batch under the 2012-13 academic session for the conduction of the farewell programme of the batch on the campus.

Sifat Al Rabbani of the zoology department of the university and Farhana Rahman Shova of the archeology department were respectively elected the ‘king’ and the ‘queen’ of the batch. Sifat received 488 votes and Shova 504 votes.

Election commissioner Shafiqul Islam announced the result after the day-long elections, held at Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union, ended at 9:00pm.

The elected ‘king’ and the ‘queen’ will conduct the final session of the batch’s farewell programme, scheduled to be held from December 23 to December 25 on the campus.

Farhana, the elected ‘queen’ of the batch, said, ‘We expect to offer the best ever rag day programme in the history of the university as a large number of us are still tightly bonded with one another after the completion of our graduation.’

The ‘king’ and ‘queen’ sought cooperation of their batchmates, current students and the university authorities to bring out a successful farewell programme, colloquially called ‘rag day’.

Every year a festive mood prevails on the JU campus ahead of the farewell programme of an academic session of the university.

The students usually arrange several gate-together programmes before a month of the formal farewell programme.

The elections of the ‘king’ and the ‘queen’ are part of a series of the farewell programmes.
