Abdus Sobhan Golap, the Awami League's Information and Publicity Secretary, has been placed on a three-day remand by a Dhaka court in connection with the murder of garment worker Rubel during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mehedi Hasan issued the order on Monday . Golap was presented before the court early in the morning, following a seven-day remand that concluded at 7:00 am.

The investigation officer in the case, inspector Mintu Chandra Banik of Adabor Police Station, sought a further seven-day remand for Golap.

During the hearing, Golap's lawyer filed petitions for bail and for the remand to be cancelled. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved a three-day remand.

Golap was arrested on 25 August from West Nakhalpara in the capital. The following day, the court granted a seven-day remand.

The case, filed at Adabor Police Station by Rubel's father, Rafiqul Islam, on August 22, accuses Golap and several others, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, and actor Ferdous Ahmed, among 156 named defendants.

The case also includes 400 to 500 unidentified people.

According to the case details, Rubel had joined a protest rally organized by students and the public on August 5 at Ring Road, Adabor. The rally came across gunfire, allegedly instigated and facilitated by the accused.

Rubel was shot in the chest and abdomen and succumbed to his injuries on August 7 while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Golap was defeated by independent candidate Tahmina Begum in the most recent 12th national election.
