An unidentified truck has hit the private car of Deepak Kumar Acharjee, the Editor and Publisher of English daily The South Asian Times, at Mirpur 2 traffic intersection in the capital on Sunday night.
Deepak was returning to his Mirpur residence.
On that night, following a red light in the traffic signal, the private vehicle carrying Deepak stopped at the intersection, while a speedy truck suddenly hit the right side of the car and escaped the scene immediately. The body of the car was seriously damaged. However, Deepak was lucky to survive.
He believes the crash was not a mere accident, rather a suspicious one as he is vocal against corruption, unlawfulness, and unethical activities conducted by vested quarters of the country.
Moreover, as an Editor, he regularly publishes news reports and other news items in his newspaper, which may have triggered a sense of dissatisfaction from a certain group or community. So, he might be a victim of the anger of those groups.
After the incident, he filed a general diary (No-81) with the Mirpur Model Police Station.
It is worth noting that a report titled ‘The Plights of Bangladeshi Journalists’ was published in The South Asian Times on the same day. The writing portrays the various miseries of Bangladeshi journalists
