A Rohingya teen was killed and two others were injured by a mortar shell fired from Myanmar while they were crab fishing in the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, on Sunday evening.
The deceased, Mohammad Zubair, 18, was the son of Mohammad Hamid from the Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf.
According to camp residents, the casualties resulted from a bomb thrown by the Arakan Army, a rebel group in Myanmar.
The injured are Mohammad Jaber from Camp 24 and Mohammad Shukkur from Camp 27.
Mohammad Osman Gani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf model police station, said the three were crab fishing in the Naf River near Jaliar Island when they were severely injured by a mortar shell fired from Myanmar.
“Zubair died on the way to the hospital. However, it is not confirmed who carried out the attack,” he said, adding that police were investigating whether the incident had happened during their attempt to cross from Myanmar.
Dr Ashiqur Rahman, resident medical officer at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, said the two injured had been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
