Lawyers expressed their solidarity with the ongoing quota reform movement by staging a “March for Justice,” announced by some of the movement's coordinators, on the premises of lower courts in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.

The demonstration began at 12:40pm in front of the Dhaka Bar Association building. The protesters then marched to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

Although police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed, the lawyers faced no obstruction within the court premises.

Earlier in the day, additional police and BGB personnel were seen stationed at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.

Enhanced security measures were put in place at every corner and gate of the court premises, including searches.

DMP Lalbagh Zone Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imran Hossain Molla said the security at the courts were intensified following instructions from higher authorities to prevent any potential disturbances.

Abdul Kader, a key coordinator of the movement, announced on Tuesday that a “March for Justice” would be held across all court premises in the country.

This demonstration is in protest against what the coordinators say are mass killings, arbitrary arrests, attacks, cases, disappearances, and murders of students and the general public.

It also demands an investigation and trial by the United Nations and the fulfilment of nine demands from the student community.

The organizers called upon teachers, lawyers, human rights activists, professionals, labourers, and all citizens to fully support and express solidarity with the movement’s demands.
