The defence ministry has removed two three-star generals from their position after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of a student-led mass movement.
GOC Lt Gen Mujibur Rahman, Army Training and Doctrine Command, has been dismissed. He was, at one time, the director general of the Special Security Force that provided security to Hasina.
Besides, former National Defence College commandant Lt Gen Mohammad Saiful Alam has been forced into early retirement. He is also a former director general of the DGFI.
The ministry of defence issued two separate orders in this regard on Tuesday. The Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that
Mujibur Rahman came to the spotlight after he led ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ during the Holey Artisan attack in 2016. later, He was then made director general of the SSF and tasked with the security of former prime minister Hasina. He accompanied her on many trips.
After the government changeover, Saiful was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Previously, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered to freeze the bank accounts of Saiful Alam, and his family members on 3 September.
