A Dhaka court on Monday rejected the bail applications of former minister Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister for civil aviation and tourism Advocate Mahbub Ali in connection with the shooting death of hotel employee Md Siam Sardar in Mirpur.

The court ordered both of them to be sent to jail.

The investigating officer of the case, Mirpur Model police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdur Rahman, presented them before the court and requested that they remain in custody.

Lawyers for the accused argued for bail, while the prosecution opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court denied the bail pleas and ordered their imprisonment.

The metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) arrested Asaduzzaman Noor from Nawratan Colony of Bailey Road around 11pm on Sunday. Mahbub Ali was arrested from Segunbagicha by the intelligence police around the same time.

According to the case details, Awami League leaders and activists allegedly opened fire under the orders of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in front of Abu Taleb School in Mirpur-10 at around 11pm on July 18. Md Siam Sardar, a hotel employee, was returning home after work when he was shot and killed. Siam's father, Sohag Sardar, later filed a case against 114 individuals, including Asaduzzaman Noor, who is listed as accused No. 8.

Other notable accused in the case include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former DB chief Harunor Rashid, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and Kamal Ahmed Majumdar.
