DMP Chief: ADC Sanjida should not have given statement without permission

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq expressed his disapproval of Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjida Afrin's decision to address the media without proper authorization.

He made these remarks while talking to reporters at the DMP office on Tuesday.

The commissioner stated: "I personally did not engage in a conversation with Sanjida. She cannot issue any statements without the commissioner's authorization."

Regarding the statement made by DB chief Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid to the media regarding the incident involving the torture of two Chhatra League leaders in Shahbagh, the DMP commissioner said: "I am unaware of the source of his statement. I cannot provide any comments on it until the inquiry committee submits its report."

"In our assessment, both ADC Harun and Inspector Golam Mustafa have displayed excessive actions, resulting in a breach of the law. Appropriate actions have already been taken against both of them,” he said.

“Additionally, an investigative committee has been established to scrutinize the incident. Based on the investigative committee's report, we will undertake departmental and other necessary actions," he added.

Sanjida Afrin, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the wife of President's APS Azizul Haque, has stated that her husband, along with Chhatra League leaders, initiated an attack on the suspended ADC Harun or Rashid during her medical check-up at Birdem Hospital in Dhaka.
