Rear Admiral M Nazmul Hassan made new naval chief

Rear Admiral M Nazmul Hassan has been appointed as Chief of NavalStaff o Bangladesh Navy yesterday.The defence Ministry has issued a gazette notification in this regard.With the promotion of Vice Admiral, M Nazmul Hassan has beenappointed or three years from July 24 this year, the gazette said.Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, OSP, NPP,ndc, ncc, psc was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy on 01 July 1986.

In his longand illustrious career, he has served in various staff, instructionaland commandappointments at different levels. Prior appointed as Chief of NavalStaff, the Admiralhas performed the duties of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff(Operations), AssistantChief of Naval Staff (Personnel), Director Naval Operations, and Director NavalIntelligence at Naval Headquarters and as Director General CivilMilitary Relations ofArmed Forces Division. He commanded four warships of Bangladesh Navy,including Training Frigate BNS UMAR FAROOQ. He also commanded theBangladesh Naval Academy, Naval Aviation and the Navy’s Special Force, SWADS.In his glorious Naval Career, the Admiral has commanded Bangladesh Navy Fleetand also served as the Commander Chattogram Naval Area. During this time, hecontinued the process of rehabilitation of Forcibly Displaced MyanmarNationals inBhasanchar. Besides, he made a special contribution to the rehabilitation ofhomeless and poor people in remote coastal areas by implementingshelter projectsunder the office of the honorable Prime Minister. Moreover, he servedas the ChiefOrganizer of the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2022 held for thefirst time inBangladesh. As the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Republic of theMaldives, he made significant contributions to the development of bilateral tiesbetween Bangladesh and the Maldives by sending a medical team from theBangladesh Armed Forces to help the Maldives government's immunizationprogram, organising birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation BangabandhuSheikh Mujibur Rahman, and hosting the Honorable Prime Minister'sfirst bilateralvisit to the Maldives. He is highly regarded by officers and sailorsof all ranks for hisadmirable leadership, commitment and dedication. He was awarded with theExtraordinary Service Medal (OSP) for meritorious contribution in service life.Rear Admiral Nazmul is a distinguished graduate of Defense Services Commandand Staff College, Mirpur and Naval War College, USA. He also attended NavalCommand Course in US and National Defence Course in Bangladesh. His academicqualifications include Bachelor of Science degree from Chattogram University andMasters in Defense Studies from National University, Bangladesh. Healso took partin the UN Peacekeeping Mission in former Yugoslavia.His 38-year career has been marked by great professionalism andmilitary prowess,influenced by the values of the Father of the Nation, the spirit ofthe Liberation War,and patriotism. He has always been committed to developing Bangladesh and theBangladesh Navy.Rear Admiral Nazmul is married to Nadia Sultana and the couple is blessed with ason and a daughter.
