Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that he does not believe in politics of vengeance and revenge and has forgiven those who have politically oppressed them.
He spoke at a discussion meeting with senior journalists, and Jamaat beat journalists on Tuesday.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said: "We believe in politics of reform and forgiveness. However, if any victim or a victim's family seeks legal recourse, we will support them. As a party, we will not seek revenge. We believe in ideal democracy, and the cornerstone of ideal democracy is the right for everyone to speak freely and tolerate other opinions."
The Jamaat chief added: "Due to the government's oppression over the past 15 years, we have been unable to speak openly with you or work uninterrupted for the welfare of the common people. Yet, it is our duty to respect not only humans but all of Allah's creations.
“Humans are the best of creation. Everything was created for the welfare of humans. Therefore, there is no room for practicing evil in response to evil," he added.
