BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the rape of a woman in Muradnagar, Comilla, saying that perpetrators of violence against women have no political identity and that they are enemies of human civilization.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, Fakhrul said: “Perpetrators of such heinous acts have no place in politics—they are enemies of human civilization. I strongly demand exemplary punishment for those involved in the assault.”
Referring to the rape survivor's religious background, he said: “The rape of the Hindu woman is a despicable act that has shocked and pained the people of the country. Yet, a vested quarter is attempting to politicize and divert the incident for their own agenda.” He alleged that a continuation of fascist-era practices—such as grabbing minority homes and blaming others for such crimes—is still ongoing.
Fakhrul said: “An adviser from that area has been abusing power repeatedly in Muradnagar to serve personal interests, enabling miscreants to engage in anti-social activities.”
He further claimed that the perpetrators are being supported continuously by both domestic and foreign sources.
He said: “If the adviser is more concerned with self-interest than public service, peace in the area will inevitably be disrupted. Since becoming an adviser, this individual has focused on asserting dominance and influence in the area, like Awami League MPs.”
Describing the incident as inhuman, barbaric, and politically motivated, Fakhrul said: “The rape and violence in Muradnagar are part of a broader scheme to achieve political goals.”
He added: “It is yet another replay of the Awami League’s dirty tactics—destroying communal harmony to gain political advantage. Even after the fall of the Hasina regime, attempts are being made to ruin our long-standing tradition of interfaith unity for political gain.”
The BNP secretary general said: “Meanwhile, the allies of the fallen autocratic regime, enriched with wealth and influence, are secretly orchestrating violent campaigns, including assaults on women, in an attempt to falsely implicate others and tarnish the BNP’s image.”
He added: “These criminals are being emboldened by the blessings of powerful quarters, which is why they are carrying out such violent activities with impunity.
“In the pursuit of truth, dignity, and self-respect, people of all religions, ethnicities, and communities must unite to resist these criminals and help build a healthy society and a safe state.”
