Sarwoer Alam has been appointed the new deputy commissioner of Sylhet after the current DC, Muhammad Sher Mahbub Murad, was made an officer on special duty (OSD) following allegations of administrative involvement in the recent Sadapathor stone looting in Bholaganj.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Monday.
The move came a day after Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan accused the local administration of complicity in illegal stone extraction and vowed swift action. Sarwoer Alam, deputy secretary and currently the private secretary to Law Adviser Asif Nazrul. He is known for his work as a RAB magistrate.
