Actress Dia Mirza has come under heavy social media criticism after a podcast clip involving her son Avyaan went viral. The discussion centred on an incident linked to single-use plastic and a coconut delivery at her home. In the clip, Dia Mirza spoke about her strong opposition to plastic waste, reports NDTV. She recalled receiving coconut water delivered in a plastic bag with a plastic straw. She said, “Nothing burns my blood more than coconut water arriving in plastic bags with plastic straws.”
Dia Mirza then described how her young son reacted during the incident. She said he confronted the delivery worker and asked him to remove the plastic items, insisting that their home does not allow plastic. The clip quickly triggered debate online. Several users criticised the way the delivery worker was addressed. They said that while reducing plastic use remains important, the interaction appeared insensitive towards a person working in difficult conditions. The debate has since expanded into a wider conversation on environmental awareness, privilege and how people in influential positions address service workers.
Dia Mirza, who married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021, welcomed her son later the same year. She was earlier married to producer Sahil Sangha. As the clip continues to circulate online, public opinion remains divided over whether it reflects genuine environmental awareness or highlights a disconnect between privilege and everyday realities faced by service workers.
