Joys and sorrows of teachers are closely linked to nation: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that teachers are a community by whose hands we have been built. Therefore, the joys and sorrows, happiness and pain of this community are closely linked to the nation and the people.

He said,  I believe that the country's teacher community will not be deprived of their just demands, and their demands will be met gradually.

Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at a teachers' rally organized by the Teachers-Employees Oikya Jote at the Engineers Institution in the city this noon, on the occasion of World Teachers' Day.

Rizvi said, without sharing the hopes, aspirations, sorrows, and joys of the teacher community, the smooth upward movement, prosperity, and progress of the nation are not possible.

He emphasized building the country's education sector and alleged that the education sector was crippled severely during Sheikh Hasina's regime.

During the last fascist era, instead of providing quality education, the politics of showing only pass rates (90-95 percent) was practiced. Even if students did not write in their answer scripts, teachers and education officials were threatened and forced by higher authorities to pass them, he added.

Alleging that excessive politicization took place during Sheikh Hasina's regime, he said, the quality of education declined greatly due to politicization such as requiring her (Hasina) father's picture on the back page of books or the front page, and requiring praise of him.

Calling upon teachers to provide quality education, the veteran BNP leader said, along with the demands of the teacher community, they must also play a responsible role in raising the quality of education.

He informed, the Prime Minister is education-friendly and teacher-friendly, and he thinks a lot about making education better, more advanced, and of higher quality.

Rizvi mentioned that the Prime Minister has many plans in this regard, including addressing the just demands of the teacher community.

President of the Teachers-Employees Oikya Jote Principal Selim Bhuiyan presided over the rally while teacher-employee leaders from across the country participated in it.

Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin, BNP Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Safu, Assistant Finance Affairs Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Sumon, and General Secretary of the Teachers-Employees Oikya Jote Chowdhury Mukim Uddin Mahmud, among others, also spoke at the rally.
