Land acquisition should be carried out transparently: Land Minister

Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu today said land acquisition process must be carried out transparently, and the environment and agricultural land must be preserved. 

“The concerned authorities should take into consideration of public dissatisfaction and exercise maximum caution to preserve the environment and minimize damage of agricultural land during the acquisition,” he said while addressing the 156th meeting of the Central Land Allocation Committee at the Land Ministry here.

State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin and Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed were also present at the meeting.

The committee approved a number of proposals that had received its prior consideration.
The proposals are allocations of 1.44 acres of land at Dhopatita mouza under Fatullah Thana in Narayanganj district for the installation of a pontoon and related infrastructure to facilitate the operational activities of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Station at Pagla, 0.181 acres of land at Matarbari mouza under Double Mooring Upazila in Chattogram for the ‘Expansion and Development of Important Roads in Chattogram City (Package-1) project’, 13.33 acres of land at Shalimun and Dattapara mouzas under Gazipur Sadar for solid waste management facilities and the construction of bus and truck terminals by Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), 5.6881 acres of land at Chandana, Jogitala and Jajhar mouzas under Gazipur sadar for the first revised project on widening major connecting roads and constructing drains and footpaths in different zones of the GCC and 74.11 acres of land at Chandgaon mouza under Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram city for the construction of a sewage treatment plant under  Chattogram WASA development project at Kalurghat.

The committee also gave final approval for a number of land acquisition proposals involving more than 50 bighas of land that had been recommended by district land allocation committees.

The proposals that got final approvals are acquisitions of 52.70 acres of land at various mouzas of Sharsha Upazila in Jashore for the expansion of Benapole Land Port under the ‘Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in South Asia (ACCESS)-Bangladesh Phase-1 project’, 6.2785 acres, 12.9571 acres and 9.441 acres of land in different mouzas of Debidwar and Muradnagar upazilas in Cumilla for upgrading the Cumilla National Highway (N-102) into a four-lane highway, 2.6950 acres of land at Ajmiriganj Upazila in Habiganj for the construction of Jolsukha section of the Sunamganj–Madanpur–Dirai–Shalla–Jolsukha–Ajmiriganj–Habiganj Highway, 11.4840 acres of land at Patiya Upazila in Chattogram district for a flood control, drainage and irrigation project, 5.2125 acres and 6.7375 acres of land in Sirajganj Sadar and Kazipur upazilas respectively for road construction and widening works under the Sirajganj–Kazipur–Dhunat–Sherpur road development project, 103.73 acres of land at Patdha and Raghunandanpur mouzas under Kishoreganj Sadar for the establishment of Kishoreganj University, 18.73 acres of land at Baraitali mouza under Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar District for the JICA-funded Southern Chattogram Regional Development Project, 2.6653 acres of land at Padmabila, Ghuni and Baniagati mouzas under Jashore sadar for the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, 20.9175 acres of land in various mouzas under Golapganj upazila in Sylhet District for the Sylhet–Charkhai–Sheola Highway Improvement Project, 0.14 acres of land in Janarkeochia mouza under Satkania upazila in Cox's Bazar district for the Dohazari–Ramu–Cox's Bazar and Ramu–Gundum Dual Gauge Railway Construction Project and 12.1471 acres of land in Faridpur, Bahapur and Baduhaji mouzas under South Surma Upazila in Sylhet district for the Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil Four-Lane Highway and Service Lane Construction Project.
