Germany provides €180.807 million in technical, financial cooperation support to Bangladesh

Germany is providing Bangladesh €180.807 million (around Tk2,265 crore) in financial and technical support. 

Agreements on this development cooperation were signed today (28 November) between the two countries. 

Around €45.8 million has been earmarked for Technical Cooperation and up to €135 million for Financial Cooperation, said a press release issued today (28 November).


Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, secretary, the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh and Achim Tröster, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments. 

The cooperation under these agreements will take place in the areas of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Urban Development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) , Socially and Environmentally Sound Supply Chains, Trade and Infrastructure, Protection of Biodiversity and for a project on combating domestic violence against women and children.

Germany has been providing financial and technical assistance for the development of Bangladesh since 1972, which amounts today to a total of over €3.5 billion. 

German – Bangladesh Development Cooperation has a long-standing history in supporting infrastructure, health, poverty alleviation, good governance and human rights, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.
