Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today said the government is working to develop sports as a profession and create career opportunities for talented players.
He made the remarks while visiting the district stadium this morning to inspect preparations for the Alokito Kishor Gold Cup Football Tournament and ongoing infrastructure development at the venue.
"The government is working to develop football, cricket and other sports at the grassroots level," Dulu said, adding that sports should be promoted not only as entertainment but also as a viable career.
He said greater participation in sports could help keep society free from crimes and social problems, including drug abuse, gambling and casino activities.
"Engaging young people in sports will help them lead healthy and fulfilling lives while creating a positive environment in society," he said.
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Huque Prodhan, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Huque and officials of the local administration and sports sector were present during the minister's visit.
