BNP Standing Committee Member and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Nazrul Islam Khan today said BNP has always been a party that restores democracy, achieves development and stands by the people. That is why vested quarters begin opposing the party as soon as it comes to power.
“BNP leaders, workers and working people have long been victims of enforced disappearance, murder, torture, imprisonment and persecution. An anti-government force does not want the people of this country to live in peace. They are carrying out various conspiracies to destroy peace and undermine the government’s development efforts,” he said.
“To protect the country and their own existence, everyone must be united against this anti-government force,” he added.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a protest rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in front of BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan in the city this afternoon.
The rally was organised across the country against the anarchy created by the banned Awami fascist forces, anti-national conspiracies and propaganda by conspirators.
Anwar Hossain, president of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, presided over the rally, while the organisation’s chief coordinator and Member of Parliament Advocate Shahjahan Rahman Shimul Bishwas was the chief speaker.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque and Dhaka South City BNP Convener and Member of Parliament Md Rafiqul Alam Maznu spoke as special guests.
Nazrul Islam Khan warned that if chaos is created in the country, industry and trade, employment, income and livelihoods will be disrupted. Therefore, concerted efforts are necessary to maintain the pace of peace and prosperity in the country and the nation.
Calling for unity against all forms of injustice, including terrorism, anarchy, secret attacks, arson and bombings, he said hundreds of thousands of martyrs of the Liberation War, the 1990 mass uprising and the long 17-year movement had made sacrifices without hesitation for democracy, development and peace.
“Especially, if counted separately, working people and labourers made the greatest sacrifices during the 2024 mass uprising. Those who want to destroy that hard-earned democracy and the opportunity to move forward can never be friends of the people,” he said.
Expressing a strong position on protecting the party’s image, the BNP leader said, “Those of us who have worked with Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman can say with confidence that none of us is involved in injustice, oppression, extortion or land grabbing.”
He called upon the government to take strict measures against anyone committing crimes using the BNP's name.
Expressing hope that, like Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman would also be able to change the fate of the people of Bangladesh, Nazrul Islam Khan said the main force behind production and development would be the working people, labourers and hardworking people, and they would be the biggest forces driving this progress.
