Protest in Dinajpur Demanding Cancellation of Newly Formed Chhatra Dal Committee

Leaders and activists of Dinajpur District Chhatra Dal staged a protest demanding the cancellation of the newly announced district committee. On Sunday (May 3) afternoon, a protest procession started from the Academy School premises in Dinajpur town. The march passed through Modern Mor and ended at Lily Mor. There they protested by burning tires and demanded the cancellation of the new committee. The protest was organized by the leaders of Dinajpur District Chhatra Dal. Speakers at the rally alleged that the new committee was formed without informing the previous committee, which they consider unacceptable. Former acting president of the district unit, Rubel Islam, said that many dedicated grassroots leaders—who had long been involved in the movement and faced repression, attacks, and legal cases—were excluded from the new committee. He described this as discriminatory. He also said that they tried to contact the central committee but did not receive any response. Member secretary of the district unit, Md. Abuzar Setu, said, "We love our organization, but the most painful part is that even as the general secretary, I was not informed about the formation of the new committee. Even the conveners and member secretaries of the municipal unit were not included." He added that many long-time activists who have struggled and sacrificed for the organization were also left out. The leaders urged the policymakers to quickly reconsider the decision and form a new committee in coordination with the previous one.
