The district-level ‘Notun Kuri Sports-2026’ concluded in Nilphamari amidst a festive atmosphere. The closing ceremony and a grand prize distribution for this sports competition were held on Friday afternoon (May 8) at the Nilphamari District Stadium. Organized jointly by the District Administration and the District Sports Office, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman attended as the chief guest and handed over prizes to the winners. Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jyoti Bikash Chandra, the event featured special guests including Advocate Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shamim, Administrator of the District Council; Mustafa Haque Pradhan Bachhu, Joint Convener of the District BNP; and Advocate Abu Mohammad Soyem, Member Secretary of the District Sports Association. The entire program was moderated by District Sports Officer Abul Hashem.
Competition Results & Champions List
Organized for boys and girls aged 12 to 14, the following teams and individuals emerged victorious in various events:
Kabaddi: Nilphamari Sadar triumphed in the boys' category, while Nilphamari Municipality secured the championship in the girls' category.
Cricket: Saidpur Upazila won the title in the boys' division, and Nilphamari Municipality claimed the top spot in the girls' division.
Football: Kishorganj Upazila proved their excellence in the boys' category, while Nilphamari Sadar Upazila became champions in the girls' category.
Chess: In the individual category, Abid Arafat from Nilphamari Municipality became the boys' champion, and Fatiha Islam Subha won the girls' title.
In his speech, Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman stated, "The timely initiative of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will further enrich the country's sports arena. This will make it possible to identify truly talented players from the grassroots level." He expressed hope that the winners from Nilphamari would cross the divisional boundaries and bring honor to the district at the national level.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Jyoti Bikash Chandra mentioned that teenagers participated spontaneously in diverse events such as football, cricket, chess, athletics, swimming, kabaddi, badminton, and martial arts. District Sports Officer Abul Hashem confirmed that these district-level winners will soon represent Nilphamari in the divisional-level competition to be held in Rangpur.
It is noteworthy that ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ kicked off simultaneously across the country on May 2 with the inspiring slogan "Sports will be a profession, families will find reassurance." At the closing ceremony, every winning athlete was encouraged with medals, crests, certificates, and trophies.
