Indian army chief visits Bangladesh

India's Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande is visiting Bangladesh upon an invitation extended by his counterpart General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
During his visit from Monday to Tuesday, he is scheduled to review the passing out parade at the Bangladesh Military Academy in Chittagong, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said. The chief of the Bangladesh Army recently made a trip to India, where he reviewed the passing out parade at the Commissioned Officers Training Academy in Chennai.
The Indian army chief's visit comes in the wake of this recent trip, as noted by the High Commission.
General Pande will pay his respects to the members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 by laying a wreath at the altar of Shikha Anirban (flame eternal) at Dhaka Cantonment.
Additionally, the Indian army chief is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with his Bangladesh counterpart and review the entire scope of defence cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
"These high-level exchanges offer an opportunity for both sides to renew the strong bonds of friendship and fraternal ties that exist between the armed forces of India and Bangladesh," said the High Commission in a statement.
