A Dhaka court has directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate allegations against writer and blogger Gazi Aftabun Nesa Riti concerning allegedly offensive online content about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The case was brought by Abdullah Al Mamun, who alleged that Riti repeatedly used her personal website and X account to publish material that mocked Islamic beliefs and contained remarks he considered offensive towards the Prophet (PBUH).
According to the complaint, the alleged publications caused offence to the religious sentiments of members of the Muslim community. The complainant also alleged that such material could contribute to social tension.
The case came before Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman at Court Room No. 18 of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on September 9. Following the hearing, the magistrate took cognizance of the complaint and directed the PBI, in connection with Ramna Police Station, to conduct an investigation.
Court officials said the complaint was filed under Sections 295 and 298 of the Penal Code, 1860, and recorded as C.R.-296/2026.
The allegations concern material allegedly published on digital platforms. A court source said the posts included what was described as inflammatory and offensive language relating to Islam and Islamic religious figures. The nature and authenticity of the alleged material are subject to investigation.

The court has fixed October 8 for the next hearing and submission of the investigation report.
