Due to low cost, high speed, and maximum security, the Bangladesh Postal Department’s special service 'Speed Post' is gaining rapid popularity day by day in Nilphamari. In contrast to the high charges of private courier services, securing reliable delivery facilities for just a few taka has generated a vast response among the general public, students, and local micro-entrepreneurs.
From July this year, this special 'Speed Post' service of the government has been fully launched in all upazila-level post offices, including the Nilphamari Head Post Office. Along with regular documents, savings bank services, GEP, and registered post services, this newly introduced operation has turned into a truly customer-friendly service.
According to information from the Nilphamari Head Post Office, from July '26 to October 12, nearly 500 parcels were delivered to various parts of the country through Speed Post. From this, the government earned approximately BDT 80,000 in revenue. Additionally, more than 350 parcels arriving in Nilphamari from different parts of the country were safely delivered to customers. On the other hand, from July to October 12, the number of documents and registered letters reached 49,092, generating approximately BDT 5,35,974 in revenue for the government.
According to data provided by the postal department, the transportation cost for Speed Post is only BDT 10 to 11 for the 1st kilogram, and for each subsequent kilogram, a charge of only BDT 5 is taken. Furthermore, this service features parcel delivery within 24 to 48 hours along with modern tracking facilities.
Rabanni, a carpenter from Mistrypara in Panchapukur Union, came to the post office to send cooked beef to his son studying at Chittagong University. He shared, "For a cost of just BDT 97, cooked food can be delivered safely. I have sent food multiple times before as well, and every time my son received it on time and in good condition."
Similarly, Dr. Sumaiya Sultana, who completed her MBBS, came to send 173 kg of her furniture and books to Moulvibazar, Sylhet. She said, "Where sending this 173 kg of goods through a private courier would have cost around BDT 5,000, I am sending it safely for only BDT 1,500 via government Speed Post. Coming on the advice of friends, I am extremely satisfied with such an affordable and safe service."
Online entrepreneur and former student of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Shiuly Akter, is sending natural honey from her page 'Shiuly Kanan' and 'Sidal', a traditional dish of North Bengal, to customers across various parts of the country through this Speed Post. She mentioned that for the past three months, it has been possible to deliver products on time and at a very low cost via Speed Post without any damage.
Student Abdus Sattar stated, "Being a government institution, there is no lack of security. Along with delivering parcels on time, the cost is also much lower than courier services."
Goods booked every afternoon and night are first dispatched from Nilphamari to Parbatipur via the Titumir Express and Rupsha Express trains, and from there, they reach the capital directly via state mail. According to banner sources, items booked today will be delivered to 21 points in Dhaka city by tomorrow and to any legitimate destination across Bangladesh (such as fruits, rice, lentils, vegetables, and furniture) within a maximum of 48 hours.
Regarding the temporary shortage of vehicles, Nilphamari Head Post Office Postmaster Md. Shamsujjoha said, "We provide service six days a week, and even if parcels arrive on Friday, arrangements are kept in place for delivery. The main issue is the scarcity of our own vehicles. Once arrangements for dedicated transport are made, reliance on Parbatipur will decrease, and direct delivery to the upazilas will become easier. Plans are already underway to launch dedicated vehicles for the Nilphamari Post Office very soon."
He further added, "No one else in Bangladesh has such a vast and extensive network as the postal department. With over four thousand post offices and the tireless hard work of thousands of officers and employees, door-step service is possible in every corner. Furthermore, under IPS posting and UPU (Universal Postal Union), letters and parcels can be sent to any country in the world at the lowest cost. Nilphamari Head Post Office is always committed to providing the best service to citizens."
