Authorities have detained 265 illegal immigrants, including 132 Bangladeshis, across various operations for alleged offenses related to their entry into Malaysia.
In one such raid, termed “Ops Mahir,” 206 arrests were made at a construction site in Pasir Gudang on Friday, as confirmed by Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir.
Other than the Bangladeshis, the detainees included 51 men from China, 10 from Myanmar, six from Pakistan, three from Indonesia, and two from Vietnam.
Their ages ranged from 18 to 61.
Baharauddin said that the raid was conducted by 90 enforcement officers from the Immigration Department.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering the country without valid travel documents and overstaying.
It is also being investigated under Rule 17(b) and Rule 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the requirements of their visit pass, among other breaches.
Meanwhile, Baharuddin disclosed that 43 illegal immigrants were apprehended for lacking a pass to enter the country during an operation in Senai, Kulai.
Furthermore, he said: “The operation dubbed Ops Sapu and Ops Selera was conducted at midnight, and we raided 15 premises in the shoplot areas.”
