In a tragic incident, a van driver named Lablu Hossain (50) was killed by lightning in Jaldhaka, Nilphamari. A school teacher named Akhteruzzaman (38) was seriously injured in the incident. He has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The accident took place on Monday (April 20) around 10:00 AM in the Basuniapara Puler Paar area of Kathali Union under the upazila. According to local sources, Lablu Hossain, son of the late Abdul Latif of Dakshin Deshibai area, was taking teacher Akhteruzzaman toward Dakshin Deshibai Government Primary School. When they reached the Puler Hat area, they were struck by lightning. Lablu died on the spot. Among the casualties, the deceased is Lablu Hossain (50) of Dakshin Deshibai area, Kathali Union; and the injured is Akhteruzzaman (38), a teacher at Dakshin Deshibai Government Primary School. He is the son of the late Moynul Hossain of Hafezia Madrasa Para area in Khutamara Union.
Confirming the incident, Jaldhaka Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Alam said, "A portion of the right side of the teacher's chest was burnt by the lightning. He was rescued and promptly sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. A shadow of grief has descended over the area following this incident. The prevalence of lightning is high during this time of the month of Baishakh. Everyone is requested to stay in safe shelters instead of staying in open spaces or under trees during cloudy weather or rain.
