A severe deadlock has emerged at Goyabari School and College in Dimla Upazila, Nilphamari, regarding the removal of the Acting Principal and the handover of duties to a new successor. Despite a probe finding evidence of irregularities and the absence of any court injunction, allegations have surfaced against the Upazila administration for failing to hand over the Principal's responsibilities to Assistant Professor Md. Kamruzzaman. The aggrieved teacher has filed a written complaint with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) in this regard. According to the complaint, 14 counts of irregularities were brought against the current Acting Principal, Md. Farhad Hossain, by 16 teachers in 2024. Although an investigation committee formed under the direction of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) found the allegations to be true and submitted a report, no effective action has been taken against him yet. Conversely, teachers' representative Golam Mostafa Faruk claimed that the Acting Principal has used his influence to provide "backdated" appointments to 10 individuals and has resorted to recruitment scams by forging the signatures of deceased persons.
Assistant Professor Md. Kamruzzaman stated that while the former UNO, Russel Mia, had initiated the process of handing over the responsibilities, the current UNO, Md. Imranuzzaman, has kept the matter pending, citing legal complications. However, Advocate Abu Mohammad Soyem, the Government Pleader (GP) of the District Judges' Court, clarified that there is currently no legal bar to appointing Kamruzzaman. He noted that the case filed by the Acting Principal was dismissed by the court, and although an appeal was subsequently filed, the court has not issued any stay order. Locals allege that Farhad Hossain has exploited the institution for personal gain by using political influence in the past. The college has been without a governing body for 37 months, resulting in a stalemate in administrative and educational activities. Even in the recruitment of cleaning staff, victim Tiliya Bashfor alleged that locals were deprived in favor of those paying bribes.
Regarding the matter, UNO Md. Imranuzzaman refused to take action citing the ongoing case. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman stated that it is not possible to take immediate action as they are awaiting the final court decision. However, parents and conscious locals have expressed outrage, fearing that a traditional educational institution is on the verge of ruin due to legal entanglements and administrative red tape.
