The 19th World Autism Awareness Day has been celebrated in Nilphamari with colorful arrangements. On Wednesday (May 13) at noon, the day was observed through a rally, discussion meeting, and wheelchair distribution, jointly organized by the District Administration, District Social Services Office, and the Disability Service and Assistance Center. A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office with the theme "Autism is not a limitation—every life is valuable." Presided over by Nusrat Fatema, Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office, the Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman attended the program as the chief guest. Additional Superintendent of Police Faruq Ahmed spoke as a special guest. Other speakers included District Disability Affairs Officer Shahjahan Ali, journalist Nur Alam, and Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon's Office Dr. Md. Atiur Rahman Sheikh.
In his speech, the Chief Guest stated that autism is a form of disability that usually manifests in children around the age of three. He urged parents not to lose hope but to give sufficient time to their children and remain conscious of their development. During the meeting, speakers demanded the establishment of a specialized school and care center for disabled and autistic children in Nilphamari district town. Earlier, an awareness rally started from the Deputy Commissioner's office and circled the main roads of the town. After the event, the invited guests distributed wheelchairs among ten persons with disabilities. Hridoy Hossain, Urban Social Service Officer, delivered the welcome speech, and the program was moderated by Hospital Social Service Officer Nur Nahar Nuri.
