Rizvi accuses Jatiya Party of helping establish Awami League’s autocracy

He made these remarks while speaking at a discussion meeting organised by the Northern Student Forum on Tuesday at the National Press Club, marking the 18th release day of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, reports Bangla Tribune.

Rizvi said: “Who will do politics or not—that is a matter of law and government. BNP does not create mob culture anywhere and does not believe in anarchic mobocracy. However, BNP does have analysis. What has been the role of Jatiya Party over the past 16 years? What role have other political parties played? Who protected Sheikh Hasina’s Awami fascism? Who facilitated the laundering of hundreds of crores of people’s money for 16 years? Who carried out the responsibility of giving the seal to establish Awami League’s terrible autocracy? Among them is Jatiya Party.”

Rizvi further said: “I have said before, GM Quader went to India. Here, journalists asked him what was discussed. He did not answer that, instead saying he could not speak without their permission. Everyone knows they gave instructions for the Jatiya Party to participate in the election. Even that, he cannot say without their permission. Are you a political party of India, or of Bangladesh? This is your backbone, this is your principle, this is your ideology.”

He added: “At one time the country was treated as Sheikh Hasina’s father’s property, and whatever she wished, she did. One bank after another was handed over to S Alam. Now that the same S.Alam has delivered two thousand five hundred crores to Sheikh Hasina in Delhi to make something happen in Bangladesh. He also promised to give another two thousand crores. Another leader, Sheikh Hasina’s right-hand, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, is now abroad or in India. In his constituency in Bangladesh, he inaugurated a large university just yesterday. How is this possible?”

Criticising Jatiya Party Secretary General Barrister Shamim Patwary’s statement that BNP has the responsibility to protect Jatiya Party, Rizvi said: “BNP is not in state power. Still, a fair election has not taken place. What responsibility are you talking about? Why are you again speaking of taking responsibility? Why will BNP take responsibility for Jatiya Party? Who are you? When Ilias Ali and countless BNP leaders and activists were disappeared—where were you then, where was Jatiya Party then?”
