A demonstration rally and memorandum submission program was held in Nilphamari to demand the implementation of seven-point demands, including preventing job displacement under the pretext of modernizing the registration system and stopping the issuance of certificates to unskilled or inexperienced individuals. On Tuesday (August 18), leaders of the District Document Writers Association submitted this memorandum to the Law Minister through Nilphamari Additional District Commissioner (General) Nuzhat Tasneem Awn.
Earlier at noon, a protest procession was brought out from the District Document Writers Association office located at the Shaheed Minar premises in the city. After circumambulating the main streets of the city, the procession turned into a protest rally at the District Commissioner's office premises.
Presided over by Shafiqul Islam, President of the Nilphamari District Branch of the Bangladesh Document Writers Association, the key speech at the rally was delivered by General Secretary Golam Robbani. Former Association President Md. Abdullah, Azgar Ali Sarkar, and Dimla Upazila branch representative Masud Rana, among other leaders, also spoke at the event.
Among the seven-point demands raised by the protesting document writers, notable points include—not depriving experienced document writers of work in the name of modernization, fixing the minimum honorarium at 5,000 BDT, not allowing any unskilled or inexperienced person other than license holders the opportunity to write documents, constructing sitting spaces and prayer rooms at government expense within office premises, forming the Bangladesh Document Writers Council, and providing legal protection without directly naming document writers as accused in any complexities arising during professional duties.
In the rally, General Secretary Golam Robbani mentioned that a central mass rally was held in Dhaka on February 8 this year to realize their demands, where BNP leaders expressed solidarity. Following that, leafleting and various programs are being observed nationwide. Expressing hope, he stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would implement these logical demands of the document writers and stand by the professionals.
Upon accepting the memorandum, Additional District Commissioner (General) Nuzhat Tasneem Awn assured that the matter would be brought to the attention of the higher authorities.
