Md. Mahbub Ur Rahman Mahbub has been elected President in the biennial election of the Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mahbub Ur Rahman, former General Secretary of the Municipal BNP and President of the Shop Owners' Association, received a total of 280 votes. His nearest rival, senior joint convener of the district BNP and former president of the chamber Md. Sohel Parvez, received 276 votes. The victory in this post among three candidates was decided by a narrow margin of just four votes.
In the same election, Raj Kumar Poddar Raju won the Senior Vice President post with 361 votes, while his nearest rival Abu Saleh Sohel Rana received 214 votes. Besides, Md. Akhtar Hossain Swapon was elected Vice President with 387 votes, and his contestant Md. Farhanul Huq received 131 votes.
Voting began on Saturday (August 22) in a festive atmosphere from 10 AM at the Rabeya Balika Vidyalaya Niketan center in the town and continued until late afternoon. In the evening, Abu Mohammad Soyem, chief of the election board, officially announced the results. He stated that the election was completed in a fully transparent and influence-free environment without any disruptions. Out of 684 voters, 590 exercised their franchise, with 10 votes declared invalid.
Among other posts, 12 out of 18 candidates were elected in the General Member group. The winning candidates are— Md. Golam Mostafa Ranju, Md. Muktar Hossain, Sushanta Kumar, Md. Hasanuzzaman, Md. Tarikul Alam, Tapas Kumar Saha, Md. Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, Md. Rezwan Ahmed, Md. Sakil Ahmed, Md. Akibur Rahman, Md. Mashgul Islam, and Md. Mahbubor Rahman Moni.
On the other hand, five out of eight candidates won from the Associate Member group. They are— Md. Abul Kalam Mithu, Mohammad Momtaz, Mobassher Alam Prince, Md. Motiar Rahman, and Md. Azizul Islam.
