DoE fines 6 industries in Ctg for destroying environment

A total of 6 industries have been fined Tk 370000 for destroying environment by discharging untreated waste and running businesses without obtaining environmental clearances in the port city on Thursday.
Hillol Biswas, Director of Department of Environment (DoE) Chattogram Metropolitan office, imposed a total of Tk 150000 fine to Win Washing Plant, Hossen Washing Plant, JPS Accessories and Luminous Accessories for not installing Affluent Treatment Plant and destroying environment by discharging untreated liquid waste in drains.
At the same time the DoE Director also fined Tk 200000 to Euro Paints Industry and Tk 20000 to Masud Furniture for running businesses without obtaining environmental clearances from DoE.
The DoE Director imposed the fines on the industries after a hearing at his office on Tuesday.
Hillol Biswas told the SAT that a team of DoE led by Assistant Director Hasan Ahmad and Inspector Shawon Showkat visited the accused industries on 15 September and fond them guilty of doing harm to environment by discharging untreated waste.
"After receiving inspection report the industries were fined according to the law", he added.
