The foundation stone laying ceremony of a mosque and a new academic building, along with a civic and view-exchange meeting, was held in a very grand atmosphere at Mashiur Rahman Degree College in Nilphamari. The main attraction and guest of honor at the event was Nilphamari's pride, Convener of the Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB) and former Member of Parliament for Nilphamari-1, Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin. Additionally, the honored Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat, Ms. Rehana Akter Ranu, attended the event as an invited special guest, making it even more successful.
Rehana Akter Ranu, Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the MP in charge of Nilphamari district, said that despite BNP's landslide victory across the country in the February 12 election, the 'Dhaner Sheesh' (Sheaf of Paddy) symbol could not win in Nilphamari. This did not cause any loss to Dhaner Sheesh candidate Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin; rather, the real loss was suffered by the people of this area.
She made these remarks on Thursday (July 30) afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the upward expansion work for the second and third floors of the academic building and the mosque at Mashiur Rahman Degree College in Nilphamari town.
Strongly criticizing Jamaat-e-Islami, Rehana Akter Ranu alleged that Jamaat never wanted elections; rather, it hatched various conspiracies to foil the election. Before the election, they practiced politics by using deception and religious sentiments. Therefore, she called upon people from all walks of life to decisively reject such evil forces in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, BNP National Executive Committee Member, Convener of the Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB), and former Member of Parliament Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin said that Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is working tirelessly for about 16 to 17 hours every day. He goes to the Secretariat at 9:00 AM and returns home at 11:00 PM. With the way he has taken the helm for the welfare of the country and the nation, if everyone supports him, there will be a massive positive change in the socio-economic system of the country in the next five years.
He further mentioned that breaking the trend where the state or politicians avoided marginalized people in the past, Tarek Rahman has taken exceptional initiatives to distribute various family and social protection cards, considering the hardworking and poor people at the grassroots level.
Chaired by Sohael Parvez, President of the Governing Body of Mashiur Rahman Degree College, the event was also addressed by District Council Administrator Advocate Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shamim, Director of Secondary and Higher Education (Rangpur Region) Professor Golam Majed, Executive Engineer of Education Engineering Department (Nilphamari) Hajerul Islam, and Tamanna Yasmin, wife of former Member of Parliament Shahrin Islam Tuhin.
The principal of the college, Md. Shahidul Islam, informed that the upward expansion of the academic building at a cost of BDT 1.5 crore under the supervision of the Education Engineering Department, and the construction of the college's new mosque funded by the District Council with BDT 3 lakh, officially began today.
