A delegation from the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), Jahangirnagar University (JU) participated in the Second International Training Programme on "Smart Renewable Energy" held at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, under the SOHO Erasmus+ Project.
The five-day international training programme was organized as part of the project's capacity-building initiatives and brought together faculty members and researchers from partner institutions in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam, and several European countries. The programme aimed to strengthen participants' technical expertise and practical competencies in renewable energy technologies, with a particular emphasis on photovoltaic (PV) systems, while fostering academic collaboration and international knowledge exchange.
The delegation comprised Prof. Dr. Risala Tasin Khan, Prof. Dr. Md. Sazzadur Rahman, Dr. Rashed Mazumder, and Prof. Dr. M. Shamim Kaiser, all from the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), Jahangirnagar University. They actively participated in the technical sessions, laboratory demonstrations, and collaborative discussions with international experts.
The training programme commenced with an introductory session on electrical quantities conducted by Alessandro Niccolai, providing participants with the essential electrical concepts required for understanding renewable energy systems. This was followed by a comprehensive lecture on photovoltaic systems delivered by Sonia Leva, who discussed solar energy technologies, PV system architecture, operating principles, and the growing role of photovoltaic energy in achieving global sustainability goals.
Hands-on laboratory training was conducted at the SolarTechLab, where Alejandro González Moreno introduced participants to photovoltaic modules, measurement instruments, laboratory equipment, and experimental procedures used in solar energy research.
Further technical sessions included photovoltaic system performance analysis and preliminary system design led by Emanuele Giovanni Carlo Ogliari. Nicoletta Matera presented methodologies for the economic evaluation of photovoltaic systems, covering investment analysis, cost-benefit assessment, and financial feasibility studies. A practical workshop conducted by Michael Wood demonstrated the use of open-access software tools for estimating photovoltaic energy production based on geographical and environmental conditions.
As part of the programme, the JU delegation also visited the Sustainable Simulation Lab, where Michela Longo and her research team showcased advanced simulation techniques and ongoing research in sustainable energy systems.
The programme concluded with a networking dinner hosted by Politecnico di Milano, attended by Vladimir Tanasiev, providing participants with an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and discuss future collaborative initiatives.
The participation of the Jahangirnagar University delegation highlights the university's strong commitment to internationalization, academic excellence, research collaboration, and the advancement of sustainable energy technologies through global partnerships. The experience is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing renewable energy education, research capacity, and innovation activities at Jahangirnagar University.
