Over 6.25 Lakh Taka Found in Donation Box of Nilphamari’s 500-Year-Old ’Chand Khosal’ Mosque

The historic 'Chand Khosal Mosque' located in Bherbheri village under Putimari Union of Kishorganj Upazila in Nilphamari stands as a unique paradigm of ancient architecture and religious heritage in the northern region. Built nearly 500 years ago during the Mughal era, numerous devout people from home and abroad gather daily at this memorable mosque. After a long period of six months, the donation box (chest) of this traditional mosque was opened, yielding cash amounting to BDT 6,63,429.
On Wednesday (July 29), after the Dhuhr prayers, this large amount of donated money was officially counted. At that time, a festive and orderly atmosphere prevailed throughout the mosque premises.
According to local administration and mosque committee sources, after the Dhuhr prayer, the donation chest was opened in the direct presence of Kishorganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and President of the Chand Khosal Mosque Management Committee, Md. Arifur Rahman. Subsequently, local veteran worshippers, committee members, and dignitaries sat together to begin counting the money. Following the count, the receipt of BDT 6,63,429 in cash was recorded in the cash register.
Apart from the cash from the donation box, an additional BDT 3,45,000 was earned over the past six months through the public auction of various vowed items offered by devotees and religious individuals—such as ducks, chickens, pigeons, goats, cows, and even gold ornaments. In total, including the income earned over the last six months and previous balances, the total deposit in the mosque's official bank account currently stands at BDT 10,08,429.
Highlighting the unique spiritual significance of the mosque, locals shared that devout visitors coming from near and far to this historic Mughal architectural site offer donations and charity to the best of their ability in hopes of fulfilling their inner wishes and vows. Some donate cash, while others deliver domestic animals, birds, or valuable items as vows to the Almighty.
Regarding the overall income and expenditure of the mosque, Cashier Majnur Rahman said:
"Like every time, this time too, the counting of money from the donation box was completed with utmost transparency in the presence of the UNO Sir and with the direct assistance of general worshippers. This money is used to meet the regular operational expenses of the mosque as well as to maintain its heritage."
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and President of the Mosque Committee, Md. Arifur Rahman, stated:
"Chand Khosal Mosque is one of the main ancient archaeological and religious heritages of our Nilphamari. The entire amount retrieved by opening the chest has already been deposited into the mosque's designated bank account. Keeping the original structure of this ancient monument intact, this fund will be spent following proper rules for infrastructural development, enhancing modern facilities for ablution and prayer for guests and worshippers arriving from afar, and for overall beautification."
