DRU demands journalist Saeed Khan’s immediate release

The Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) has strongly condemned the arrest of journalist Saeed Khan and demanded his immediate release.

DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and General Secretary Mohi Uddin in a release expressed concern over the incident.

Saeed Khan is a permanent member of DRU and a professional journalist.

The release said he was picked up by law enforcers from his home on Thursday night. Later, he was placed on a five-day remand in the metro rail arson case.

Saeed Khan was staying at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on the day the metro rail was torched, his family claimed. This shows that he has been intentionally implicated in this case. Which is unexpected and sad. If there is no video footage against him, he should be released immediately, it added.

The DRU leaders demanded immediate release of Saeed Khan from the case.

They also urged the law enforcement agencies not to arrest or harass journalists without any specific allegation in the future. They also demanded fair trial of those involved in the attacks on all important installations including BTV.
