JU moves to implement zero waste, zero plastic initiatives

Jahangirnagar University (JU) has taken an initiative to implement zero waste and zero plastic practices on its campus.

A discussion meeting on the initiative was held at the office of the university’s Pro Vice Chancellor (Education) at around 12:30pm on Wednesday.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Sohel Rana, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, and Prof Dr Mohammad Shahedur Rahman, professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Engineering and SPM of the Technology Transfer Project, attended the meeting.

Md Iftekharul Haque, director and chief business development officer of Catalyst Energy Limited, its Co-founder and COO Monwarul Islam, and Knowledge Management and Documentation Officer Rokeya Jahan Bonna were also present.

The participants discussed various aspects of introducing zero waste and zero plastic practices at the university.

They also agreed in principle to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JU and Catalyst Energy Limited to advance the initiative.
