Fiction writer Samaresh Majumdar Literary Award-2024 has been awarded to reputed novelist and President of Bangla Academy Selina Hossain.
The award was jointly presented by Abishkar Publications of Bangladesh and Samaresh Majumdar Memorial Foundation of India.
Selina Hossain was presented with the prize money at Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall at Jatiya Press Club on Monday.
President of National Press Club and Member of Parliament Farida Yasmin, General Secretary Shyamal Dutta and president of the programme fiction writer Tridiv Kumar Chattopadhyay handed over the prize money to him.
Samaresh Majumdar's daughter Doel Majumdar, fiction writer Tishrendu Mukhopadhyay's daughter Devlina Mukhopadhyay, Jatiya Press Club senior vice-president Kavi Hasan Hafiz, poet and dramatist Farid Ahmad Dulal, discovery leader Delwar Hasan were present.
At the end of the event, Selina Hossain and other guests unveiled the cover of Samaresh Majumdar's memorial book. In the memorial book, the condolences of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been added. The writings of 36 writers from Bangladesh and India have been included in it.
It may be noted that the Samaresh Majumdar Memorial Foundation has decided to award one writer from West Bengal and one writer from Bangladesh every year. This year West Bengal's Thirshendu Mukherjee and Bangladesh's Selina Hossain got this award.
