Probe corruption of 65 former minister-MPs: SC lawyer to ACC

A Supreme Court lawyer has applied to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe corruption of 65 influential ministers and members of parliament (MPs) of the previous Awami League government.

On August 18, a lawyer named Barrister M. Sarwar Hossain made this application to the ACC Chairman, referring to their list and unusual increase in wealth.

When asked, ACC secretary Khorsheda Yasmin said that if a complaint is made to the commission, the commission will look into it according to its rules, it is a routine work of the commission. ACC will definitely act if it gets specific information regarding corruption of any individual.  

In the application Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Barrister M Sarwar Hossain, brought allegations against 65 people referring to the big increase in wealth of Awami League (AL) ministers and MPs during the last 5 to 15 years.

According to the statistics, in the last 15 years, the income wealth of the ministers and MPs has increased tremendously--from a minimum of 100 times to several thousand times. In some cases, their wealth and income increased up to lakh times during the tenure of AL government.

In the application, the Supreme Court lawyer enclosed a list of 65 former ministers.

Tipu Munshi, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Anisul Haque, Dr. Dipu Moni, Dr. Enamur Rahman, Zahid Malek, Tajul Islam, Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury Faridul Haque, Golam Dastgir Gazi, Imran Ahmad, Zakir Hossain, Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, Zahid Ahsan Russell, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Shajahan Khan, Hasan Mahmud, and Kamrul Islam, are among the former ministers and MPs in the list.
